A 40-year-old man was wounded overnight after he was alerted to thieves attempting to break into his parked vehicle, and when he tried to intervene he was shot in the Bronzeville neighborhood, Chicago police said.
Shortly before 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, the victim was inside his residence when he was told three people were trying to break into his vehicle that was parked in the 500 block of East 38th Street. Once the victim made it outside to confront the thieves, one of them opened fire in the man’s direction, police said.
The other two culprits fled the scene in a silver SUV, and the gunman fled on foot.
The victim suffered gunshot wounds throughout the body, and was taken to an area hospital where his condition was stabilized, police said.
No one was in custody, and detectives were investigating.
