A 43-year-old man has been charged with causing death by careless driving after a cyclist was killed by a lorry in Chelsea.

Charlotte Landi, a teacher, died nearly a year ago on September 27, 2017, after she was hit by a lorry on Grosvenor Road, at the junction with Chelsea Bridge, while on her way to work.

The 36-year-old had been described as an “angel in disguise” by colleagues and her death prompted a “die in” vigil in her memory, outside of Kensington and Chelsea town hall.

On Tuesday, the Metropolitan Police announced that Jason Edmunds, of North Crockerford, Basildon, has been charged with causing death by careless driving.

Mr Edmunds, the alleged driver of the lorry, is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on October 19.

Following Ms Landi’s death, she was described as “incredibly warm and kind” by colleagues at her school.

Speaking to the Standard at the time of her death, Irene Del Real said: “I first met her in Chile when she was living there, but I got to know her more during a visit to England. She was incredibly warm and kind, and super easy to talk to.

“During my visit we had some great conversations and I left England very happy to have met her. What happened to her is a real shock.”

Ms Landi was taken to Kings College Hospital, in Denmark Hill, following the crash and died on the same day.
