Man, 78, dies after crash

A man has died in hospital following a serious crash in St Helens on Boxing Day. At around 2.40pm on Thursday, December 26, Merseyside Police received reports that a blue Mini and a grey Ford Fiesta were involved in a crash on Burrows Lane, in Eccleston, near to Mere View.

Emergency services attended the scene and a 78-year-old man, from Prescot, who was the driver of the Mini, was taken to hospital. He sadly died last week from his injuries. The man has not yet been named by police but the force is now appealing for witnesses following his death.

Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer, from our Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “Our thoughts are with the family of the man who has sadly died following the collision and they will be supported by a specially trained officer.

“An investigation was launched following the collision and this is ongoing. Our aim is to get answers for the family and establish the circumstances of what happened. I am appealing for anyone who witnessed this collision or the build up to it, to please get in touch”.
