An unsuspecting pet owner had the shock of his life when he thought caring for his two new little female guinea pigs would be a breeze.

However, it turned out that he couldn't have been more wrong. He'd accidentally bought a male and a female, which began multiplying 'faster than the owner could react'.

Before he knew it, he had 160 little guinea pigs running around in his garden in Gosport, Hampshire, and he was finding it hard to cope.

He duly called the Worthing Guinea Pig Rescue centre when 'things got out of hand', who began the process of re-homing the little guinea pigs across the country.

Jenny Dorney from the centre, speaking to The Worthing Herald, said: “The owner had looked after them incredibly well, especially given the circumstances.

“I don’t think he intended to end up with 160 guinea pigs – but he did a fantastic job.

“They were well fed, and had a good amount of space in his back garden. However, I do wish he had sought help earlier.”

The left over guinea pigs are now in the care of Piggy Bank UK, who are hoping to find each of them a loving new home.
