Man arrested after crashing car while 'drunk with child on his lap'

A suspected drink driver has been arrested after crashing a car while driving with a child on his lap.

Police shared shocking images of a BMW which had hit a parked car and rolled over in the early hours of Sunday in Brandon, Suffolk.

They said a man and a young child were in the car. When the man was breathalysed, he was shown to be three times the drink-drive limit.

Both were checked over by ambulance crews and found not to have suffered injuries.

Mildenhall Police added that is believed that the young child was in the driver's lap at the time of the crash, and was help in by the seat belt, branding it 'appalling' incident.

Sharing details of the incident on Twitter, Mildenhall Police wrote: "Overnight #NRT5 attended an RTC in #Brandon where a car had collided with a parked car and rolled over.

"A male and young child were in the car. On arrival, male was breathalysed, blowing 103ugs, around 3X the limit.

"Young child and male were checked my ambulance, both are ok...

"It is believed the young child was in the drivers lap at the time of the crash, held in by the seat belt. Male was further arrested for child neglect. An appauling [sic] incident, with a poor young childs life risked by the actions a male driving intoxicated! #Fatal4 #Shocking #988."
