Man, 27, arrested after alleged attempted abduction of five-year-old boy in front of his mum

A man has been arrested after the attempted abduction of a five-year-old boy in front of his mother.

The alleged incident happened at about 2.30pm on Thursday, January 7 in Northala Fields, Northolt, Surrey, when a man approached the boy and picked him up.

The man ran a short distance with the boy before being confronted by the child’s mother, prompting him to put him down.

The boy was unharmed.

The Met Police said a 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted abduction of a child on Saturday (January 23) at an address in Surrey.

He was taken to police custody in London.

The force had previously released a CCTV image of the suspect in a bid to track him down.

Speaking at the time, DC Ashleigh Nelson said: “Incidents of this nature are very rare, but I understand the concern it may have caused in the local community.

“I want to reassure people we are doing everything we can to find out who is responsible.”
