Man arrested after armed police swoop on street

A man was arrested after following a police stand-off in a street in Bootle.

Armed police responded to the incident on Friday (June 7) at around 11.15am on Wordsworth Street, following reports of a concern for safety of a woman inside a premises. The residential street was cordoned off as neighbours reported seeing a 'massive' police presence.

A 29-year-old man, from Bootle, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of false imprisonment, affray, criminal damage and assault and was taken into custody for questioning.

The woman was found safe and well and assessed by paramedics, police confirmed.

Police efforts were reportedly focused on a flat on the top floor of the block of flats, midway down Wordsworth Street. Speaking to the ECHO yesterday, a neighbour said he saw "around nine police vehicles" in the street, "then more arrived later". He said there was "a crowd of people outside watching what was happening".
