A man has been arrested after allegedly threatening an enforcement officer with a hammer: Met Police

An enforcement officer was allegedly threatened with a hammer over an unpaid parking ticket in a quiet south-west London suburb.

The bailiff had clamped a man’s car when he came out of a house wielding the hammer and threatened him, police said.

The man then used the hammer to puncture one of his car tyres, before the enforcement officer called 999.

Police rushed to the scene in Mortlake shortly before 9am on Wednesday but the suspect had fled before they arrived.

He was arrested later in Ship Lane following a stop by police.

The man, who is in his early 30s, remains in custody.
