Man arrested over footage of jogger pushing woman into bus

A man has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm by police investigating after a jogger appeared to push a woman into the path of an oncoming bus.

Police say a 41-year-old man is in custody following enquiries at an address in the Chelsea area. The incident, which went viral earlier this week after the release of CCTV footage, took place in nearby Putney, southwest London.

The dramatic CCTV showed the bus was forced to swerve into an adjacent lane, only narrowly avoiding hitting the 33-year-old pedestrian.

Police said the bus then stopped and passengers tended to the woman – who received minor injuries – following the incident on Friday, May 5 at about 7.40am.

Officers said the jogger then ran the other way across the bridge around 15 minutes later and the victim attempted to speak to him, but “he did not acknowledge her”.

“The victim was put in extreme danger when she was knocked into the road. It was only due to the superb quick reactions of the bus driver that she was not hit by the vehicle”, said investigating officer Sergeant Mat Knowles.
