Man arrested on roof after shotgun fired on residential street in Co Down

A man in his 20s was arrested on a roof in Ballygowan on Sunday morning after reports that a shotgun was fired in a residential street.

The PSNI say the incident took place in the Oakdale area of the Co Down village just before 8am this morning.

A round from the shotgun struck the garage window of a house in the area. When PSNI officers arrived to the scene they found a man located on the roof of a house in nearby Meadow Avenue.

The suspect was arrested at the scene and remains in custody,

"A 23 year old man has been arrested after a shotgun was discharged in a residential street in Ballygowan," a PSNI spokesperson said.

"A round struck a garage window at a property in Oakdale at around 7.45am this morning, Sunday 9 June.

"Responding officers detained the male after he was located on a rooftop in nearby Meadow Avenue.

"The suspects remains in custody at present."
