A 38-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a car smashed into a wall in Yarm.

Emergency services were called to Yarm High Street around 11pm last night, Friday, September 27, after the wall was smashed down leaving rubble all over the path and road.

The wall, believed to be part of Yarm School premises, was still cordoned off this morning. One onlooker said there was a strong smell of gas following the incident and believed it had caused a gas leak.

Police and firefighters were on the scene and the road was closed between Bentley Wynd and Worsall Road. There appears to have only been one car - a black audi - involved in the incident.
