Man arrested as teen remains in critical condition after 'serious assault' in NI village

A 28-year-old man has been arrested as a 19 year old remains in a critical condition after an assault outside a licensed premises in Co Antrim.

Detectives from the PSNI's Major Investigation Team are continuing to investigate the incident which took place in Waterfoot in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Police received a report that a man was unconscious in the Main Street area of the village just after 1.25am. The 19-year-old was taken to hospital by colleagues from the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service and remains in a critical condition at this time.

In an update this evening, a PSNI spokesperson said: "Detectives investigating a serious assault in Waterfoot in the early hours of Saturday, 19th October have made an arrest.

"A 28-year-old man was arrested this afternoon in connection with the investigation on suspicion of grievous bodily harm with intent.

"He has been taken to police custody as enquiries continue. The victim, a 19-year-old man, remains in a critical condition in hospital at this time."

Officers have appealed to anyone who may have been in the licenced premises or the Main Street area at the time that the incident took place to contact them on 101 quoting reference 130 of 19/10/24.
