Man arrested after woman stabbed in front of terrified shoppers in Birmingham city centre

A 46-year-old man has been arrested after a woman was brutally stabbed during a broad daylight attack in front of terrified shoppers in a city centre.

Emergency services rushed to the scene after the 26-year-old victim was attacked with a knife on Temple Row, in Birmingham city centre, at 9.50am today (Tue).

The woman was taken to hospital where she remains in a serious condition while officers detained a suspect on nearby Newhall Street.

The man was also taken to hospital after sustaining an injury as the horror unfolded in front of shoppers and commuters outside the posh Great Western Arcade.

West Midlands Police said they believe the stabbing was an isolated incident and are not looking for anyone else in connection with the attack.

Detective Superintendent Ed Foster, said: “Thanks to members of the public who helped us track the suspect, we were able to detain him within minutes of the incident happening.

“He has been taken to hospital after sustaining an injury during the incident, but remains under police detention.

“Officers remain in the area carrying out enquiries and to offer reassurance to the public.
