A man attacked five people, including two children, when his ex-partner broke up with him. Adam Hodgkins assaulted another man, as well as women and children in Fenstanton in what police called a "sickening" attack.

The 31-year-old man has now been jailed or two years and four months. Hodgkins argued with his ex-partner at her home in Fenstanton when she ended their relationship on August 25.

Enraged, Hodgkins headbutted the woman, before strangling her so she could not breathe. The victim managed to get her phone and threw it to a child so they could raise the alarm.

Hodgkins punched the child before returning to strangle the victim again. The woman managed to escape and ran outside.

In the meantime, Hodgkins punched a hole in a door at the property and caused further damage to items belonging to the victim. The woman managed to make it to a neighbouring property, but Hodgkins pursued her.

When another woman tried to intervene, he punched and kicked her multiple times, before attacking a man who tried to help and hitting another child to the back of the head. Hodgkins, of Throne Road, Rowley Regis, West Midlands, admitted intentional strangulation, assault causing actual bodily harm, four counts of assault by beating and three of criminal damage.

Yesterday (November 25) at Cambridge Crown Court he was jailed for two years and four months.

On sentencing, His Honour Judge Grey gave the woman who intervened a formal commendation, stating “her bravery no doubt prevented a far more serious incident.”

DC Edward McAuley said: “Hodgkins clearly didn’t care who he attacked as he assaulted women and children who got in his way. His behaviour was sickening, and I’m pleased he has now appeared in court.

“Tackling domestic abuse is one of our priorities and I’d encourage anyone in an abusive relationship to seek help.”
