AN image has released of a man police want to identify after a man attempted to steal bottles of spirits and then assaulted a supermarket staff member when they tried to stop him.
On Thursday, September 21, a man came into Tesco in Lymington High Street, at around 8.50pm.
He reportedly placed multiple bottles of high-value spirits into a shopping basket.
He then tried to leave the shop without paying for the items, before staff intervened to prevent him from leaving with the goods.
The man then reportedly verbally abused two staff members and assaulted one of them by pushing him in the face.
The victim was uninjured.
The man is described as white, around 50 years of age and 5ft 9ins tall. He is of skinny build, with a grey beard with black hair, which was shaven short on the sides and slightly longer on the top.
He has a wrinkly and scarred facial complexion.
Hampshire Police officers investigating the assault and public order incident have released a picture of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
Officers are appealing for information on the incident, and for anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area at the time to contact the police.
Anyone with CCTV, mobile phone, dash cam or doorbell camera footage which could aid the investigation should get in touch.
