A man who left a young woman seriously injured after he beat and tortured her over three hours in a “savage and cruel” attack has been jailed.

Fiston Onyumbe, 32, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at the Old Bailey on Friday after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent.

The 20-year-old victim’s “brutal and shocking” ordeal started at a nightclub she had gone to with Onyumbe in Dalston when he began strangling her outside the venue following an argument.

He then took her to the flat in Tottenham, north London, where he tied her up and ripped her clothes off, police said.

Over the next three hours he tortured her; burning her with cigarettes and boiling water from a kettle and punching her head, face and body.

His desperate victim even jumped out of a first floor window to escape her torment as Onyumbe went to refill the kettle, but he ran after her and dragged her back into the flat, banging her head on the communal stairs and pushing his fist into her mouth until she lost consciousness.

He left her with multiple, extensive injuries, including significant blood loss, a fractured jaw, a fractured skull, a fractured eye socket, 35 per cent third degree burns across her body and a damaged pelvis and spine.

Police, who were called to Pymmes Close shortly after 8am on Saturday, January 21, found the woman in the bedroom of the flat covered with a blanket, semi-conscious and asking for help.

When they arrived Onyumbe, of Pymmes Close, immediately became violent and attacked them. It took six officers to restrain and arrest him.

Detective Inspector Fareed Mirza, from Haringey CID, said: “This was a particularly savage and cruel attack undertaken by a violent man who has preyed on and abused a weak and vulnerable young woman for a protracted period of time.

“Onyumbe’s actions were calculated, brutal and shocking. The sentence he has received today reflects this, but the physical and psychological injuries to the victim will still take a long time to heal.”
