Man blocked a speed camera van but it didn't stop him getting a fine
A man who purposely blocked a mobile speed camera van has been found guilty of obstructing an emergency worker. In April this year, Emin Zrelli, from Kirkby, was travelling along Moorgate Road in Kirkby when he spotted a Safer Roads Unit (SRU) Enforcement van.
Zrelli approached the back of the van where the SRU Enforcement Officer was operating a speed detection device and purposely obstructed the view of the officer. He was warned about his behaviour and asked to move, however, Zrelli refused to move and was arrested on suspicion of obstructing an emergency worker.
He appeared in court earlier this month (October) where he was found guilty of obstructing an emergency worker. He was fined and ordered to pay costs.

Merseyside Police Chief Inspector, Stuart McIver, said: “We will not tolerate any abuse or hindrance to our staff in the lawful execution of their duty. We know speeding motorists pose a greater risk – both to other road users and themselves. We attend the scenes of serious collisions and know all too well the harm that can be caused when motorists drive at excess speed.
“Safer Roads Enforcement Officers assist us in making our roads a safer place – they provide a highly visible deterrent, often on roads that have experienced problems with speeding motorists, conducting enforcement and engaging with the community.
“We welcome the court’s sentence and will continue to take positive action against anyone who obstructs our staff.”
