We all love a freebie!

And one bloke was definitely feeling the love when he ordered a sandwich recently. The American chap headed into a cafe to purchase a falafel pita for lunch.

He was chuffed when the cashier told him he didn't need to pay – but couldn't work out the reason why until he looked on the receipt and found a hidden message there.

The foodie took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his story. He posted a picture of the receipt, alongside the words: "Was the guy who made my sandwich in love with me?? I tried to pay and he said 'you're all set' and this was the receipt."

A copy of the bill shows that while the sarnie cost $11.05 (£8.70), it was reduced to $0 after the bill was paid up by 'Love'.

And it's safe to say people loved the post – as it racked up more than three million views and plenty of comments. Some people thought it did seem like the assistant had a crush on him, as one person wrote: "Signs point to yes."

Another added: "I think you're the one," while a third admitted they thought it was "so romantic". However, the poster admitted to them: "I am very surprised lol."

Another asked the guy why he didn't talk to the server, writing: "Yep, and instead of talking to him you're posting it for likes from strangers." However, the poster killed any chance of a sweet romantic tale, as he replied: "I'm straight."

Others had ruder theories as to why the meal was given out for free. One joked: "This happens to me sometimes and I think 'still got it', but then I realise I just look homeless."

And the man replied: "So ur saying it was a pity pita." Awkward!
