Man Called ‘Phuc Dat Bich’ Admits The Whole Thing Was A Hoax

A man who went viral all over the world after claiming that Facebook had discriminated against his name has admitted that the whole thing was a hoax.

The man, who claimed to be called Phuc Dat Bich, posted a photo of his apparent passport to Facebook in January - and claimed that it was proof of his actual name.

But while the post went viral earlier this month, he has since admitted that the whole thing was nothing more than an elaborate joke to highlight the weaknesses of Facebook’s name policy.

Posting under the appropriate name of Joe Carr (geddit), he wrote: ‘Facebook needs to understand that it is utterly impossible to legitimise a place where there will always be pranksters and tricksters.

‘What started as a joke between friends, became a prank that made a fool out of the media and brought out the best in the people who reached out to me.

‘It didn’t bring out the anger and darkness that we often see on the internet, but it brought a levity and humanity in a time we need it most.

‘Out of this ordeal I’ve concluded not to trust the credibility of the media, it’s twisted by the hungry journalists who mask the truth … It goes to show that an average joe like myself can con the the biggest news sources with ease.’

He also told The Guardian that his real name was Tin Le, and added that no media outlet had attempted to verify if his passport was actually real.

Suspicions about the authenticity of the hoax were first raised by journalist Trevor Long, who claimed that ‘the weight of the font on the passport page is entirely different to the rest of the page.’

Turns out he was right!
