Man at cashpoint pushed to the ground before he had his money stolen in Newcastle city centre robbery

A man was allegedly pushed to the ground before his money was stolen in a reported robbery in Newcastle city centre.

At 11.30pm on Tuesday, August 27, it was reported that a man was at the cash machine outside La Maschera on St Nicholas Street. Police said the man was approached by two men who demanded he hand over the £40 in cash he had withdrawn from the machine.

The duo then pushed the victim before stealing the money he dropped on the floor. Both men fled the scene in the direction of the Bigg Market.

Northumbria Police's enquiries have indicated that one of the offenders got into a taxi which later stopped near Newcastle College on Westmorland Road. The men have since been identified by Northumbria Police.
