Man charged with attempted murder after women injured at Amazon depot in Tilbury

A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a woman was struck by a vehicle at an Amazon distribution centre.

Essex Police said officers were called to Windrush Road in Tilbury at 9.35am on Sunday.

One woman suffered serious injuries when she was struck by a vehicle and a second woman was assaulted, the force said.

Both victims, who were Amazon employees, were taken to hospital and a man was arrested at the scene.

Afrax Ahmed, 29, of Peartree Way, Greenwich, south-east London, appeared for a virtual hearing at Southend Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.

He is charged with attempted murder, causing serious injury by dangerous driving, ABH, failing to provide a specimen and driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence.

He was remanded in custody to appear at Basildon Crown Court on August 11.

Chief Inspector Richard Melton, District Commander for Thurrock, said: “This charge is the result of some really hard work over the last 24 hours.

“I know this will be a concerning incident to people living and working in Tilbury but we do not believe there is a risk to the wider public.”
