Man charged with murdering 84-year-old mother Lesma Jackson

A man has been charged with the murder of his 84-year-old mother in north London.

Lesma Jackson was found by police officers at a home in Enfield on Sunday morning with numerous injuries.

She was pronounced dead a short time later, the Metropolitan Police said.

Her son, Gareth Jackson, 50, was charged on Monday morning with her murder.

He is due to appear in custody at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court later on Monday.

Police were called to an address in Stainton Road, Enfield, following concerns about Ms Jackson’s welfare.

A post-mortem examination is yet to be carried out.

Police said Ms Jackson’s family had given permission for her to be named.

In a statement, the Metropolitan Police said: “At approximately 2.15am on Sunday, 30 January, officers attended a residential address on Stainton Road, Enfield, following concerns for the welfare of an elderly woman.

“Officers found the 84-year-old woman suffering from a number of injuries. She was pronounced dead a short time later.”
