Man charged over bomb hoaxes to Houses of Parliament and Super Bowl

A 23-year-old man is due to appear in court over a series of hoax bomb threats made to schools, the Houses of Parliament and the Super Bowl.

Andreas Dowling was arrested at his home in Torpoint, Cornwall on Tuesday and has been charged with 20 counts of making hoax bomb threats to schools across England and the Houses of Parliament between 19 January and 8 February 2016.

He has been charged with a further 10 offences relating to hoax bomb threats made in other countries between 10 October 2014 and 1 February 2015.

He made the threats to a number of American schools and police departments and the Super Bowl XLIX as well as a threat to a Canadian school during the same period.

The investigation was initially led by officers from Counter Terrorism Policing South West, but a police spokesperson said they are satisfied the threats were not an act of terrorism.

Mr Dowling, who has been remanded into custody, will appear at Exeter Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

He will also face a charge of encouraging the distribution of an indecent image of a child.
