Man In Court After Policeman Stabbed In Head

A man has appeared in court charged with attempted murder after a police officer was stabbed in the head in London.

Portuguese-born Carlos Djau is accused of carrying out a knife attack on the police constables at his home on Cooks Road in Walworth, south east London, shortly after 8pm on 28 February.

The alleged incident happened after police responded to a call about an armed man who had picked up a baby.

An officer in his 30s received stab wounds to his head and shoulder.

He was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged.

Djau wore a grey T-shirt and jogging bottoms as he sat in the dock at Camberwell Magistrates' Court, speaking only to confirm his name, address and date of birth.

District Judge Tim Stone remanded the defendant in custody until a hearing at Woolwich Crown Court on 16 March.
