A man has been charged with three counts of rape

A man appeared in court on Friday charged with three counts of rape in Shoreditch.

Clement Omoregbee, 35, of Charlton Lane, Greenwich, was arrested following an investigation by the Central East Public Protection Team and charged with three counts of stranger rape.

The first attack is alleged to have taken place on 16 February 2019 on Shoreditch High Street. The victim did not wish to support an investigation and no further action was taken.

The second incident was reported on 6 December 2020 after a rape allegedly took place on December 5 in Shoreditch area.

The suspect was arrested on 2 March 2021. He was released on police bail.

The third rape was alleged to have taken place on 4 September 2020.

The suspect was arrested again on 21 April 2021.

He was charged on Friday and appeared at Thames Magistrates’ Court.

Omoregbee was bailed and will next appear at Wood Green Crown Court on Tuesday, 18 May.

As part of his bail conditions, he is not allowed to go into the London Borough of Hackney, must abide by a curfew and wear a tag.

He is also not allowed to contact the victims – who were not known to him.

The charges relate to separate investigations spanning between February 2019 and September 2020.

The investigation was carried out by the Central East Public Protection Team.

The Met’s Specialist Crime Command was involved in the arrest.
