Man charged after violent disorder in Merseyside bringing total to 44
A 44th person has been charged following violent disorder in Southport and Liverpool. Violent scenes flared in Southport on July 30 and then in Liverpool city centre and Walton on August 3.
Police vans were set alight and officers were attacked during protesting on St Luke's Road in Southport on the evening of July 30. A planned protest at the Pier Head on August 3 then descended into violence, with Merseyside Police forced to use riot gear after bricks and debris were thrown towards PCs.
The disorder then continued on County Road that night as chaos, violence and destruction ensued as looters targeted businesses in the area. This included a fire being started at Spellow Library and Community Hub.
Today, Rory Allington-Mott, 34, from Newport, Shropshire, was charged with violent disorder relating to the incident in Southport. He has been remanded into custody to appear in court on Monday, August 19. The total number of people arrested in connection with the disorder now stands at 75.
