Man charged after worker held hostage at NatWest bank in Birmingham

A man has been charged after a member of staff at a NatWest bank in Birmingham was held hostage, police say.

David Hempseed, 60, is accused of false imprisonment and possession of an imitation firearm at the branch in Northfield on Friday.

West Midlands Police said the suspect, from Northfield, is also charged with possession of a knife and arson with intent to endanger life.

He has been remanded in custody to face the allegations at Birmingham Magistrates' Court on Monday.

There were no reports of any injuries in the incident.
