Man and child die in Germany mass stabbing as police arrest suspect
A man and a child have been killed in a mass stabbing in Germany.
Police have arrested a man after he launched a frenzied attack on members of the public in the Bavarian town of Aschaffenburg on Wednesday morning.
Two people were killed and dozens have been left injured in the rampage, the Mirror reports.

First responders have cordoned off a large portion of the city, covering Schöntal Park, where the attack is believed to have taken place, and suspended local traffic in the area, and have taken one man into custody.
German news publication BILD, which has cited its own sources in reporting the death of the man and child, reported that there are no other suspects in the case. Police added there is not thought to be any danger to the public.
The local service said in a statement: "According to the current situation, a knife attack took place at around 11:45 a.m. in Schöntal Park, in which two people were fatally injured. The suspect was arrested in the immediate vicinity of the crime scene." An eyewitness speaking to the Main-Echo claimed the suspect was taken away "in a headlock."
Another publication claimed the suspect had attempted to evade arrest via railway tracks in Aschaffenburg, leading local authorities to suspend local rail and road traffic. Railway operators said trains to and from Aschaffenburg are currently being held back, with unclear implications for regional and long-distance traffic.
Schöntal Park has previously been classified as a "dangerous place" by local officials following a series of crimes in the area, including a robbery and assault. In October 2024, police carried out a major drug raid in which officers checked, identified and searched around 20 people gathered at the park .
