Manchester City edged past Napoli as Pep Guardiola's side kept their perfect Champions League record in tact with a 2-1 win.

The leaders of the Premier League and Serie A met at the Etihad in what initially promised to be a close encounter, but City were bright from the first whistle as Raheem Sterling opening the scoring nine minutes in for the hosts.

Gabriel Jesus added City's second four minutes later and only a combination of the bar and post denied Kevin De Bruyne a superb effort for the third.

City were given a first-half scare as Kyle Walker conceded a penalty, but Dries Mertens saw his effort saved by Ederson.

John Stones blocked a certain goal in the second half, while Napoli finally made the breaktrhough with their second spot-kick of the match as Amadou Diawara beat Ederson - but City saw out the win.
