Manchester City have received a boost in their pursuit for Jamal Musiala as the club prepare for Kevin de Bruyne's departure in the near future.

The Express report Musiala has rejected Bayern Munich's latest contract offer, putting doubts over his long-term future. The 21-year-old has entered the final year of his contract at the Allianz Arena, having been with the Bundesliga giants since 2019.

The report claims the attacking midfielder is looking for a deal worth £300,000-a-week which his advisors believe is in line with his current status in the game. City meanwhile, have been tracking his progress for a year and could find themselves trying to prise Musiala away from a Blues legend in boss Vincent Kompany.

However, the Premier League champions face competition from Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal and Real Madrid. The latter is thought to be City's main rivals to his signature, as the Spanish giants are the most successful club in the history of the game.

Bayern meanwhile, are thought to still be in talks with the German international to try and persuade him to sign a new deal with sporting director Max Eberl confirming both parties will engage in talks.

"The fact is that we have been exchanging ideas for months. We will sit down and talk, we will do this in our own time," he said on the weekend. "Jamal knows what he has at Bayern, but we also know what we have in Jamal. He should become one of the mainstays at Bayern.

"We want to win the Champions League, we want to win national titles. Our aspirations will help Jamal garner his own personal rewards."

Musiala is currently valued at £120million which would be a British-record signing. De Bruyne on the other hand, was heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia earlier in the summer.

With his contract set to run out next summer, City will have the January transfer window to try and recoup some funds for his sale, should he rebuff new terms.
