A man has appeared in court accused of burning down a house in Carterton.

Daniel Boore, 32, was before Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Monday facing charges of arson being reckless as to whether life was endangered and possession of knife.

Prosecutors say he set fire to the house in Elm Close, Carterton, on Friday, July 1. Despite the efforts of firefighters, the cul-de-sac property was gutted in the blaze.

Appearing before the district judge on Monday morning, Boore, of Elm Close, Carterton, pleaded guilty to possession of four knives at Carterton police station on the day of the fire.

The arson charge is indictable only, meaning a plea can only be taken at the crown court.

Boore was remanded in custody to appear at the crown court on August 1.
