Man in critical condition in hospital after being attacked with traffic cone

A man is in a critical condition after being attacked with a traffic cone.

The victim, in his 30s, was struck with the base of a traffic cone at Station Approach in Barking, east London, at 8.30pm on Saturday.

The impact caused him to fall to the ground.

The Metropolitan Police said it is investigating to identify the person, a man, who threw the traffic cone base.

No arrests have been made.

A spokesman for the force said on Monday the victim remains in hospital.

The police came across a row in the area on Saturday night before the traffic cone base was thrown.

Officers gave the victim first aid on the scene before he was taken to hospital.

Barking & Dagenham Metropolitan Police Service tweeted on Sunday: “At 8.30pm on Saturday, officers came across a disturbance in Station Approach, Barking.

“During the disturbance, the base of a traffic cone was thrown, hitting the victim and causing him to fall to the ground.

“Officers administered first aid and the man was taken to hospital.

“The man, aged in his 30s, is in a critical condition. There has been no arrest.

“Enquiries are ongoing to identify those involved, including the male who threw the object.”

London Ambulance Service said it sent a crew to the scene along with two medics in cars.

It said a man was treated at the scene and then taken to a “major trauma centre as a priority”.
