Man dead and another injured following incident in Hamilton community centre

A man has died and another has been rushed to hospital following an incident in Hamilton.

Emergency services rushed to the Burnbank Centre at around 3.50pm on Monday, October 21, following reports of two injured men.

A 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital - the nature of his injuries is unknown.

Officers remain at the scene and enquires are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police say that road closures are in place on Whitehill Road and Purdie Street until after midday on Tuesday.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 3.50pm on Monday, 21 October, 2024, we received a report of two men injured within the Burnbank Centre, Hamilton. Emergency services attended and a 36-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 59-year-old man was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the exact circumstances of the incident.”
