Man detained after police cordon off Bristol park

A man has been detained under the Mental Health Act following an incident in Bristol. Emergency services were called to the Kingsdown area of the city at around 6.30pm this evening (Monday, June 3).

In a recent update, Avon and Somerset Police have confirmed that the man is now in the care of mental health services. A cordon was put in place at Kings Square Park, off Dove Street, following the incident.

As well as police officers, fire crews and paramedics rushed to the scene this evening. Pictures show a major 999 response as people were urged to avoid the area.

Avon and Somerset Police said: "A man has now been detained under the Mental Health Act and is now in the care of the mental health services."

They previously said: "Officers are in attendance at Kings Square Park, off Dove Street, in Bristol, this evening (Monday 3 June) to deal with a concern for welfare incident, involving a man.

"We’re asking people to avoid the area for the time being. Dove Street is closed and access to Kings Square Park is also limited."
