A dad who was fatally bitten by an American Bully-type dog a house in Wrexham shouted "get off me" as he was mauled to death.

Keven Jones, 62, was pronounced dead inside the property on Holt Road on Monday after neighbours reported hearing screaming at around 11.30am.

His daughter-in-law said his death was the "worst day of her life" after she attempted to save him.

Jones had offered to help look after several pet dogs while his son Josh went to Wembley to watch Wrexham in the FA Trophy final.

Jones was in the kitchen when his son's partner Chanel Fong, 28, said she heard him telling Cookie the dog: "Get off me."

Fong added she rushed into the room to tell the dog to get down - but then spotted blood pouring from Keven's leg.

Emergency services rushed to the scene at 11:30am while Chanel carried out CPR.

Keven went into cardiac arrest and was later pronounced dead by paramedics.

Fong wrote on Facebook: "I grabbed Cookie's blanket from his crate to try and keep the wound from bleeding.

"I carried him to the sofa and called the ambulance.

"Kev was with me but unresponsive, he grabbed my shoulder and told me he was going."

She said Cookie was euthanised in the back garden by a vet and her other dog, Fire, who has an athletic build, was taken by a dog handling team.

Fong said Cookie was "not aggressive in the slightest" but liked to play as if it was a small puppy.

She added: "Please respect Josh and his family, myself and my family at this absolutely heartbreaking time.”
