Man dies following mystery collision after leaving hospital

A man has died following a mystery collision on the Isles of Scilly today, Saturday, November 23. The death follows a report of a missing man from the St Mary's hospital who was found dead two hours later.

Devon and Cornwall Police said that a missing report was raised of a man in his 60s who had left the hospital at St Mary's at around 2.20am. Shortly after, at around 4:30a.m., the ambulance service attended a collision involving a cyclist and a parked car.

The man was taken to hospital, where he was later confirmed deceased. Police have confirmed the cyclist was the missing man. Devon and Cornwall Police have confirmed that his next of kin have been informed.

Superintendent Ben Asprey said: "Our thoughts remain with the family of the deceased man, who are being supported by specialist officers. Devon & Cornwall Police will make a mandatory referral to the Independent Office of Police Conduct (IOPC).”

A statement from the force said: "A man has died following a collision on the Isles of Scilly in the early hours of Saturday 23 November.

"Police were called at 2.20am to concerns for a man who had left the hospital on St Mary’s. A missing person report was raised. At around 4.30am the ambulance service attended a report of a collision involving a cyclist and a parked car. The cyclist was confirmed to be the missing person.

"The man, aged in his 60s, was taken to hospital where he was later confirmed deceased. His next of kin have been informed."
