Man dies after major incident near Taylor Swift gig in Edinburgh as police make arrest

A man has died following an incident near the Taylor Swift gig in Edinburgh yesterday.

Emergency services raced to Westfield Road in the capital after the alarm was raised at around 12.55pm on Friday. Officers were called to a concern for a man within a property.

Ambulance crews attended but a 53-year-old was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene. A 43-year-old man has since been arrested in connection with the incident. Police say their enquiries are ongoing.

Yesterday we told how the residential street - which is less than a 5-minute walk from Murrayfield where thousands of fans were making their way to Swift's gig - was locked down by police. Officers advised concert goers to avoid the area and use alternative routes.

Detective Inspector David McAlinden said: “Our enquiries remain ongoing but we are treating this as a contained incident.

“Westfield Road has been closed to allow for investigations to be carried out in the area.

“We know this has had a significant impact on the local community and wider public so we would like to thank them for their patience and understanding.”
