A teenager has died in a motorcycle crash after being pursued by police in London.
The Metropolitan Police said the 18-year-old motorbike rider was involved in a collision with a taxi and "street furniture" on Tottenham Court Road, close to Warren Street Tube station.
A 17-year-old pillion passenger on the motorbike suffered arm and leg injuries, described as "non life-threatening". He was arrested after being found with a machete, the force added.
The fatal incident happened after two officers on marked police motorcycles "became aware of a motorcycle travelling through a red light on Oxford Street" at about 6.45am on Monday.
Officers provided first aid to the driver of the motorbike before the arrival of paramedics.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and the Met's directorate of professional standards have launched separate investigations into the incident.
"Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic incident," the IOPC added.
