Man dies after police receive reports of concern for safety
A man died in hospital after police received reports of a concern for safety. Police were called to the Southport Road and Mallory Avenue area of Lydiate at around 10.45pm yesterday, Monday September 16.
The man, who was in his 40s, was taken to hospital where he was pronounced dead. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) have launched an investigation because he was in contact with police immediately prior to his death.
A Home Office post-mortem will take place to formally establish the cause of death. A house on Mallory Avenue was blocked off by a cordon this morning.
A witness who saw the incident told the ECHO: "He was a sound lad, he used to walk two dogs. I always let on to him and he would always nod. I went back to my mum's house and I was in tears. I was in shock."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We were contacted at 10.45pm last night, Monday 16 September, to reports of concern for the safety of a man in the Southport Road and Mallory Avenue area of Lydiate.
"Patrols attended to assist the man and he was taken to hospital. The man, who was in his 40s, was sadly pronounced dead at hospital. A Home Office post-mortem will take place to formally establish the cause of death.
"The matter has been referred to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) due to police contact."
