Man dies and two seriously injured in A5 crash in Telford

A man died and two more were seriously injured in a two-car crash. It happened on the A5 between Redhill and Crackleybank, near Telford, on Tuesday, June 4. A black Mercedes collided with a silver Ford Mondeo at around 7pm.

Emergency crews from the ambulance, police and fire services rushed to the scene after being called at 7.07pm. The ambulance service sent two ambulances, two paramedic officers, the Air Ambulance critical care car from Cosford and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Tatenhill.

A man in his 40s was in a critical condition and given advanced life support by fire officers and medics but could not be saved. Two more men, one in the same vehicle as the 40-year-old, were also treated and taken to hospital.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said: “On arrival, crews found three patients. The first patient, a man, was in a critical condition. He was removed from the vehicle with the assistance of fire colleagues and ambulance staff immediately began administering advanced life support but sadly, despite everyone’s best efforts, he could not be saved and was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A second man from the same car was already out of the vehicle. He was treated for potentially serious injuries before being conveyed on blue lights via land ambulance to Royal Shrewsbury Hospital for further treatment.

“A third man, the driver of the second vehicle, was removed from the car with assistance from fire colleagues and treated by medics for serious injuries. He was taken via land ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital.”

West Mercia Police appealed for witnesses to come forward. The force said: “Officers in Telford are appealing for witnesses following a fatal collision on the A5 from Redhill to Crackleybank. The collision between a black Mercedes and silver Ford Mondeo took place Tuesday, June 4 at around 7pm.

“Unfortunately a man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene. Two more people were taken to hospital with serious injuries.
