Darren Shane Pencille appeared before magistrates.

A man accused of murdering a father who was on a train with his teenage son has appeared in court.

Darren Shane Pencille, 35, allegedly stabbed 51-year-old Lee Pomeroy to death on Friday, a day before his birthday.

Pencille, who is charged with murder and possessing an offensive weapon, appeared in the dock at Staines Magistrates’ Court wearing glasses and a grey prison-issue tracksuit.

He spoke to confirm his name and date of birth, that his nationality is British, and said he had no address at a hearing lasting just over two minutes.

Chair of the bench Helen Mattey remanded him in custody to appear at Guildford Crown Court on Monday afternoon.
