A man has been kicked out of his hospital bed two years after he was first asked to leave.

James Paget University Hospital in Norfolk went to court to force the removal of the disagreeable patient, who no longer required care.

The Suffolk man first arrived at the hospital in August 2014, where he received treatment for an undisclosed condition.

But when medics ruled him ‘fit for discharge’, the man refused to leave, staying put for two more YEARS.

The hospital in Gorleston-on-Sea, Great Yarmouth, had offered alternative accommodation to the man, which he refused.

Going to court was described as a last resort and a decision that wasn’t “taken lightly”.

The hospital was forced to apply to court for a possession order to claim the bed back from the man, and this was granted by December 1; he was evicted into accommodation in the community on January 10.

Anna Hills, the hospital’s director of governance, told the BBC: “The gentleman repeatedly refused all offers of appropriate accommodation organised by our local authority and social care partners, despite being fit for discharge.

“As a last resort, the trust had to apply to the court to allow us to remove the gentleman from the hospital.

“The decision to go to court was not taken lightly but our priority has to be considering the needs of all our patients.”
