Man Faces 'Significant Prison Term' After Spitting in English Police Officer’s Face

A man who pleaded guilty to assault charges after UK police say he spat blood in the face of an officer on April 18 in Coventry, England, is to face a “significant prison term,” according to a statement by West Midlands Police.

The statement was released along with footage that police say shows Temisan Oritsejafor, who was being arrested for “disorder,” spitting at a police officer while another tries to handcuff him in a hallway.

In the statement, police said: “The spit with blood went into the response officer’s eye, but despite the understandable concerns given Covid-19, she maintained her professionalism and has thankfully suffered no ill effects.”

Oritsejafor pleaded guilty to two counts of assault on an emergency worker, and a further charge of assault. He remains in custody ahead of sentencing at Warwick Crown Court at a later date.

According to the police statement, Oritsejafor was already on bail for assaulting another officer just weeks earlier. Credit: West Midlands Police via Storyful
