Man fighting for his life after being struck by a bus in Stockwell

Police are appealing for witnesses

A man is in critical condition after being hit by a bus in South London. Police were called to South Lambeth Road in Stockwell at 12.26pm yesterday (Saturday, October 27) to reports of a crash involving a single decker bus at the junction with Lansdowne Way.

The victim was rushed to hospital where he is currently fighting for his life. The Metropolitan Police is currently unable to identify him.

The driver of the bus who stopped at the scene was not arrested – they are assisting police with the investigation. South Lambeth Road was shut while officers probed the serious crash, but it has since reopened.

This morning (Sunday, October 27) the Met issued appeal for witnesses. A force spokesperson said: "Police were called by London Ambulance Service (LAS) at 12.26pm on Saturday, October 26 to reports of a collision involving a single decker bus and a male pedestrian on South Lambeth Road with the junction with Lansdowne Way, SW8.

"Emergency services attended and provided first aid. The man – no further details - was taken to hospital where he remains in a critical condition. Work is ongoing to establish the man’s identity and anyone who can assist with this is asked to contact police.

"The driver of the bus who stopped at the scene was not arrested – they are assisting police with the investigation. Road closures were put in place while the scene was dealt with – these have now been lifted."
