A man had a close-up encounter with an alligator in Murrells Inlet, South Carolina.

Footage taken by Austin Bond shows the alligator slowly walking across the sidewalk before slithering into the water at Huntington Beach State Park.

Bond told Storyful he was riding his bike when he noticed the alligator resting nearby.

“I was very watchful for alligators despite the sun in my eyes because it is common to see them in this area,” he said.

“A young lady was on a walk approaching me and didn’t notice the alligator… I pointed [it] out and she was glad I did because she was strolling right along and I’m not sure if she would have realized the alligator was there in time.” Credit: Austin Bond via Storyful
