Londoner Completes Pub Crawl Around Entire Tube Network - Three YEARS After He Started

This man doesn’t just see the London Underground as a vast subterranean transport network – but a means of undertaking an epic pub crawl.

Sam Cullen, 28, decided to attempt to visit a bar at each stop back in 2013.

Three years and more than 250 pubs later, he finished the huge, if dilatory, crawl with a pint at the Defector’s Weld near Wood Lane station.

Since visiting the Fountains Abbey in Paddington in March 2013, he has taken in stops from Heathrow to Cockfosters, West Ruislip to Epping.

He even travelled as far as Chesham and Amersham, both in Buckinghamshire and at the very end of the Metropolitan land – the former some 25 miles from Charing Cross, the centre of London.

He’s also been blogging about the experience since the start, sharing pictures and reviews of the pubs.

Sam, who lives in Battersea, told Yahoo! News that the crawl had an historical slant – starting with the oldest stations and ending with the newest.

“I started it in Paddington and decided to do the stops in the order they opened,” he said. “This is because I started it during the celebration of the tube’s 150th birthday and I liked the historical angle.

“I’d liked the idea of doing a blog offering pub recommendations for awhile but couldn’t really think of a hook for it until seeing a TV documentary about the history of the tube and the two fell into place!

“I also quite liked the idea of getting out and about and exploring London, so this gave me a perfect excuse!

He admitted he’s “quite predictable” when it comes to his drink choice, but would struggle to pick a favourite pub.

“Doom Bar is probably my favourite ale but am also (appropriately) a London Pride fan! I vary it up from time to time but generally speaking, I know what I like!”
