This man 'embodied the British spirit' by fleeing the London Bridge attack with his pint

As pictures emerged showing terrified people fleeing from the terror attack in London, one has become a popular symbol of what many people see as everything that makes Britain great.

The image, which has been shared around the world on social media, shows a crowd of people running away from London Bridge as three men launched their horrific attack on Saturday night.

But amid them, one man carries his pint – and appears to be carefully making sure he doesn’t spill any as he escapes from danger.

Some saw the man’s actions as a symbolic of the UK’s refusal to be beaten down by terrorists – despite the latest attack being the third in as many months.

Others saw it as a more humorous reflection of the cost of a pint in the capital, seeing it as understandable that he wouldn’t want to waste a drop.

And while some people saw the light-hearted approach to the man’s image as inappropriate, many praised him as an unlikely hero of a tragic night.
