Man found dead under Tavistock Viaduct

Police officers do not believe the man's death to be suspicious at this time

A man has been found dead underneath Tavistock Viaduct, police have confirmed. Emergency services were called out to the town early this morning (Wednesday, June 5) following reports concerned for the welfare of a man.

After arriving at the scene, a man aged in his 60s was found at the base of the viaduct a short while late. A spokesperson for Devon and Cornwall Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

His next of kin have been informed. Officers are now carrying out enquiries to establish the cause of the man's death, but it is not believed to be suspicious at this time.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 7.30am today following concern for the welfare of a man in the Tavistock area. “The man was located at the base of Tavistock Viaduct a short time later.

"The man in his 60s was pronounced deceased at the scene. His next of kin have been informed.”
