Man found stabbed on Church Street as police seal off area
A police investigation has been launched after a man was found with stab wounds in Liverpool city centre. Police were called to Church Street at around 8.55pm tonight, August 22, to reports a man had been found injured.
Officers arrived and found the man close to the entrance to Church Alley with injuries to his body consistent with a bladed weapon being used. He was taken to hospital for treatment where his condition is unknown at this time.
A large cordon was placed around the area, stretching from Primark down to the Decathlon store. All ways onto Church Street were sealed off, including the exit to Peter's Lane, and people were asked to avoid the area.
Forensic officers were seen focusing their attention at the top of the cordon, close to the entrance to Lush. A large number of emergency service vehicles were inside the sealed off area, including a rapid response ambulance. An investigation is now underway, and witness and CCTV enquiries are being carried out in the area.
Chief Inspector Tom Welch said: “The investigation is in the very early stages as we seek to establish what has happened in the lead up to this incident. I would appeal to anyone who was in the area of Church Street this evening who saw or heard anything to contact us as a matter of urgency.
“Knife crime has no place on our streets and we need the public’s help in coming forward and telling us what they know.” Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting log 843 of 22 August.
