Man Held Over Chelsea Racist Gesture Claim

A man has been arrested over an alleged racist incident at Stamford Bridge during a match between Chelsea and Manchester United.

The 28-year-old was arrested on Monday afternoon after attending a west London police station by appointment, Scotland Yard said.

A photograph of a man appearing to make a monkey gesture towards Manchester United's Danny Welbeck was widely publicised following the Capital One Cup match on October 31.

A police spokesman said: "He was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated Section 4a Public Order Act offence and currently remains in custody at the west London police station. Inquiries continue."

The man was later released on bail until November 29.

Meanwhile, referee Mark Clattenburg, who is accused of using racist language towards John Mikel Obi during a match between the same teams just four days earlier, has been left off the match list for this weekend.

Clattenburg has denied the claims.
